Explore Limerick City
Ireland’s third largest city dates back to Viking Times, when they decided to settle at the mouth of the River Shannon. Visit King John’s Castle, which was founded by King John in 1200, to admire the curtain walls and five drum towers – also an impressive sight from across the river. Even older is St Mary’s Cathedral on nearby Bridge Street, which dates back to 1172. You can also spend a couple of hours poking around The Hunt Museum for its collection of art and antiquities that includes jewelry from the Bronze Age and if you’re in the city on a weekend, head to the Milk Market for food, crafts and other market finds.
