Enlightenment Beyond the Classic
In addition to the formal classes and seminars through FOOD & WINE Classic there are many invitations to additional seminars that are as enlightening and an unexpected, pleasant surprise. For example, there was a beer paired breakfast hosted by Goose Island Beer Co. in 2015. Mike Kelley, one of 15 Master Beer Sommelier in the United States, who was certified from DOEMS academy in Munich, Germany led the discussion at the breakfast. Set on the roof balcony at the Limelight Hotel with pristine views of Aspen Mountain, Kelley spoke intelligently about the vintage beer being served and engaged the audience to discover how each beer changed with the food it was paired with and based on how it aged. It was an eye opening experience that dispelling many myths about beer and left the attendees with a deeper appreciation and understanding about finely crafted beer, like Goose Island Beer. Who would have imagined that beer for breakfast was such a great idea? There are many of these opportunities throughout the weekend. You just have to be inquisitive and ask around and let your interests be known.
