With thousands of miles between here and just about anywhere, you may ask,
Why do I keep coming back to Kauai?
I’m an adventurer. I’m curious. I live a lot of my life out of my comfort zone. AND, I like the outdoors. Kauai presents opportunities for my adventurous side around every corner. I will be repeating some of my favorite kayaks and hikes this summer: Nualolo Hike & Kipukai Kayak.
Kauai takes nature to epic heights with lush tropical plants, spectacular waterfalls, a majestic canyon, and then its unforgettable Na Pali coastline. The backdrop has been a wonderful place to recharge my batteries while writing. In fact, I wrote my first two books, When All Balls Drop and With New Eyes, here on Kauai. And, I plan on making it a three-peat this summer with my newest, Cubicle to Cuba.
I have a thing for roosters. Ok, get your head out of the gutter! No, I don’t have a chicken fetish, but if you didn’t know already, Kauai has roosters and chickens everywhere. There are many stories as to why, which range from chicken coops destroyed during a hurricane to other tall tales. Whatever the case, roosters are here, there, and everywhere: at Wal-Mart, DMV, and the beach. You can’t get away from them. Roosters sometimes get a bad rap, like “the island alarm clock,” but I learned from a wise man in Cuba that a rooster and his crow are to be cherished.
Whether you are curious and love island hopping like me or perhaps you need a dose of inspiration for your next challenge, I say come to Kauai and let the aloha do the rest. Check out my quick video recap of my recent adventures on the Garden Isle on my website www.heidisiefkas.com.
