Perfect end to our vacation
After 2 weeks exploring the Ligurian Coast, we ended our trip with a few nights in Lerici. It wasn't on our original agenda like all the well known areas of Portofino and Cinque Terre but it Lerici was recommended by a travel agent that used to live in Italy. And we were glad we took her advice! This was a breath of fresh air after maddening crowds elsewhere. I heard no one speaking English here...only Italian. We were there first week of June-no crowds! So beautiful here-this is the view from our hotel room (Hotel Florida) overlooking the Gulf of Poets. Stroll the corniche from this hotel-less than 5 minutes to Lerici with it's ancient fortress overlooking the boat filled harbor with colorful buildings cascading down the hill. A few minutes walk in the other direction along the coast takes you to the smaller town of San Terenzo. If you want to decompress after fighting the crowds of Cinque Terre, go to Lerici and see a hidden Italian treasure
