Latvian National Opera
The Latvian National Opera was founded in 1919 and makes its home in a grand, all-white neoclassical building that was originally built as the Riga German Theatre in 1863. A fire destroyed most of the structure in 1882, and reconstruction took five years. Both the Latvian National Opera and the Latvian National Ballet perform here, with more than 200 performances each year. Guided tours of the sumptuous 19th-century interior are also available.
