Arve River
Fed by Chamonix’s glaciers, the Arve River cuts through Alpine mountains and under the town’s charming bridges, offering not just a screen-saver image but bundles of water fun too. Easy-to-handle airboats (think individual rafts) provide visitors with wicked entertainment in the river’s whirlpools and rapids. Various local companies also supply thrilling hydrospeeding and rafting for groups during which every call, paddle, and shift in position determines how you will navigate the Class II rapids. Those of an adventurous disposition should follow the river to Geneva, Switzerland, where it meets the silt-laden Rhône to produce quite a remarkable contrasting image.
