Collector Rafael Larco Hoyle's thoroughly impressive trove of pre-Columbian ceramics is considered Peru's best. In an 18th-century viceroy's mansion, the museum, founded in 1926, houses items from his amassed collection of some 50,000 ceramic works from the Chancay, Chimú, Cupisnique, Inca and Nazca cultures; as well as gold, jewelry and a highly provocative separate collection of pre-Columbian erotica ceramics that can provoke blushing in the more easily embarrassed among us.
