Lake Pupuke

Lake Pupuke, Auckland, New Zealand

Hidden away on Auckland’s North Shore is Lake Pupuke, a volcanic fill-in in a city of volcanic fill-ins, not far from the suburbs of Takapuna and Milford. A pleasant stroll on a winter’s day, Pupuke is the ideal place to take the kids to feed the geese and ducks, and even cast a line to catch some of what is lurking below. In the evening you might want to take in a play at the nearby Takapuna Pumphouse Theatre, based on the lake’s edge in the old water pumphouse building. Best of all though, Lake Pupuke is only a few hundred metres from the sea shoreline, so if you feel like saltwater instead of fresh, you don’t have far to go.
