Going to the Dogs
Just 14 miles southeast of Wichita Falls, Lake Arrowhead State Park contains a reservoir lake with more than 16,000 surface acres of water and 100 miles of shoreline. Though far from the lush forests of east and southeast Texas, this state park offers its own distinct experiences: along with swimming, boating, and waterskiing, fishing is popular with both children and adults (licenses are not required for fishing from a pier or shoreline within a Texas state park). Explore the five miles of equestrian and hiking trails, spread over grassy plains landscapes, or visit the famous black-tailed prairie dogs in their “town”; their distinctive barks and antics are ceaselessly fascinating to kids of all ages.
