Family Mobile Tented Safari in Laikipia & Helicopter Adventure in Kenya's Northern Frontier
One of the greatest family safari experiences is to be totally self-sufficient in your very own exclusive-use mobile camp and there is no better place to do it than in the Laikipia region of northern Kenya. We pitched camp on a private site on the Lewa Downs reserve and spent four unforgettable days venturing out together on early morning game drives, tracking lion with the research team, learning bush skills with local trackers, cooking our own bread and biscuits over open charcoal fires and having safari ‘tin baths’ after a dusty day out exploring. Family banter and a chilled vodka and tonic around a flickering campfire marked the end of each day. It was absolute bliss. We also met up as a family and took an incredible helicopter excursion to a sacred flat-topped mountain called Ololokwe. The pilot perched the aircraft right on the cliff’s edge while vultures circled below us and we enjoyed family sundowner drinks on the very spot where I proposed to my now wife Sacha. Double bliss … and an afternoon I will never forget.
