This state-protected area of Atlantic rain forest shelters numerous waterfalls and wildlife and is a wonderfully tranquil spot to get out on the water—be it by boat, stand-up paddleboard, kayak or wooden canoe. The “Enchanted Lake” makes for a splendid day in nature just 33 kilometers (20 miles) north of Ilhéus. More-adventuresome types can even rappel down the canyon wall beside the Apepique waterfall.
