Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee in German as it shares territories) is one of the few places on earth where my jaw has dropped upon setting foot at its base. Referred to as both Lake Braies and Lake Prags, as the territory if South Tyorl used to belong to Austria and has not lost its dual nomenclature in the region. Italy‘s largest natural lake is a moderate and walkable circuit, even for children, that takes about 2 hours to complete, and is breathtaking at every turn. The dumbfounding water clarity and mountain grandeur of the Dolomites amidst the lush forest that encompasses it; making for an all-sensory delight. Incredible, cannot recommend it enough! Hotel Lago di Braies is just across the water if you wish to have a bite and admire the views, parking is vast and runs at about 8 euro a day. You can even rent a boat to get an immersive view of the lake.
