Monkeys and Mongooses and Crocs, Oh My
Located in southern Mauritius, the Vanille Réserve des Mascareignes is a nature park that’s worth a special trip. It claims the largest captive population of Aldabra giant tortoises—about 1,000—in the world, as well as 2,000 Nile crocodiles. In addition to these huge reptiles, the reserve is home to mongooses, wild boars, and monkeys. Both adults and children will also enjoy checking out the large aquarium, insectarium, and fossil museum. Little ones will want to visit the Jungle Adventure Playground, which is next to an area of free-roaming giant tortoises. No matter how old you are, you’re bound to discover something that piques your interest.
