A family-run seafood restaurant originally from Campeche, La Pigua grew so popular with visitors from Mérida that the restaurant opened a branch in the Yucatán capital. La Pigua’s ethos is natural, artisanal food with no preservatives, made from scratch on-site and with love. Chefs prepare traditional Campeche seafood recipes, such as pan de cazón (tortillas layered with shark meat and black beans and served in a spiced tomato sauce), and serve them up in a classic, clean and modern-feeling restaurant. The coconut cake, from Chef Francisco Romero Hernandez’s mother’s original recipe, is a firm favorite.
