La Locanda Boutique Hotel

Why we love it: Stylish small hotel that tips its hat to the greats of Arabic music

The Highlights:
Strong design ethic
Restaurant/bar with live music
In the fashionable Jebel Lweibdeh district

The Review:
La Locanda describes itself as Amman's first themed boutique hotel, and certainly does its best to live up to its billing. Over its 14 rooms it gives a survey of 20th century Arabic music, with each room subtly styled in tribute to one of their heroes. Thus you might sleep in the Umm Kulthum room, with its witty dark sunglasses and period radio nodding to her signature look and weekly broadcasts from Cairo, or the Fairuz room with its earthy palette, old wood and flowers conjuring up her love for her Lebanese homeland. Service here is attentive as the thread count in the sheets is high. When you're done with the day, you can relax in the hotel's Maestro bar, which continues the musical theme by hosting live sessions at the weekends, and is part of the circuit for the Amman Jazz Festival.
