The cognoscenti and savvy travelers often advise visitors to steer clear of restaurants in La Grand Place (as well as other areas heavily visited by tourists) - and the reasons they give are all valid: the prices are often higher, the service frequently impersonal and the food usually not as good as less conveniently-situated restaurants. BUT there is something to be said for eating in a certain place, with a particular view. And sometimes the location is such that it overshadows other considerations. The fact is, it's hard to have a bad meal in Belgium. To sit at an outdoor table in La Grand Place and savor the view or sit just steps inside a cozy restaurant is all part of the experience.
