La Faena

Calle de Venustiano Carranza 49, Centro Histórico de la Cdad. de México, Centro, 06000 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

An old-school Mexico City cantina is an all-afternoon lunch spot, refuge for night people and above all, a place to come together and share a pop. Though not every cantina cultivates the same clientele, La Faena—like several others in the Centro Histórico—is a classic, crumbling beneath more than a century of legend and reverie. La Faena’s baroque, tatty glam includes faded photographs, bullfighting memorabilia, and several dusty shadowboxes home to threadbare matador mannequins. Warm up with a chela or two and you’ll start to get it; often crowded on weekends.
