La Descubierta was the perfect people watching place in Central Madrid. The surrounding streets where full of tourists but this carless alley seemed to be mostly locals. We stayed for hours; eating, drinking and watching people. It was perfect. Definitely our favorite place in all of Madrid. The service was a bit slow, which was perfect as we were in no rush and had a nice waiter.
At the first glance, when I saw the outdoor tables on the cobblestone street, I knew we found our place. Despite their large wine list, we went with the chilled sangria on the hot summer night. We ate typical tapas—spiced potatoes, sliced ham, cheese and such but there were more substantial food options on the menu too. The scrambled eggs with shrimp and baby eels on toast looked especially interesting.
