Chef-owner Brandon Olsen’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the cuisine, service, and atmosphere of La Banane, one of Toronto’s most exciting new restaurants. A long raw bar, tables in booths, and modern art hung on the walls make La Banane feel both classic and very now. The service can have a dramatic flair: The spectacular European sea bass en croûte is presented tableside before returned to the kitchen for plating, and at dessert, the Ziggy Stardust Disco Egg—which looks like an Easter egg dyed by Jackson Pollock—must be cracked open to access the chocolate truffles inside. Now that’s theater!
