Graffiti in Kreuzberg

One of Berlin's young and hip neighborhoods is Kreuzberg, in the south of Mitte. The neighborhood is known for its very large percentage of immigrants and second-generation immigrants, many of whom are Turkish. But in recent years, the area has been populated by a young, hip crowd—students, artists, young families. The area has become one of the main locales for street art. Now the big murals and sides of buildings add tremendous character to this neighborhood. An outfit called Alternative Berlin runs graffiti tours and even introduces some of the artists.

Another ideal way to enjoy and embrace Berlin is to simply walk around. That's it. Take in the sun and check out all the amazing public art. Berlin is known for supporting the artist community with plenty of government funding for artists and sustainable studio costs to foster a powerful artist community. This is all apparent in Berlin's amazing graffiti and public art.
