Kourion
The ancient city of Kourion, one of the most important and visually impressive archaeological sites on the island of Cyprus, sits high atop cliffs with a dizzying drop-off to the sea. Among its most famous ruins are a Greco-Roman amphitheater that once could seat up to 3,500 spectators (now restored and used for open-air concerts) and the House of Eustolios, which features vividly detailed 5th-century B.C.E. mosaic floors depicting birds and fish, as well as a bathing complex with a frigidarium (cold water), tepidarium (moderate water) and caldarium (hot water).
