Kombilesa Mi: the sound of Colombia meets a new pop
Y'all can we talk about generations of black excellence spanning through time? On my trip to San Basilio de Palenque, a village which is know for being the first settlement of free Africans in the Americas, we stopped by to see a band called Kombilesa Mi. San Basilio de Palenque is the same place Joe Arroyo a famous salsa and tropical music singer is from. The city has a history for breeding amazing musical talents and now fast forward to this young example of brilliance: Kombilesa Mi. Alex Rocha toke us to their studio where they make music and they performed a handful of their songs which was so good. They have traveled the world and become famous for using classic Palenque sounds mixed with Hip Hop. They were all so young, humble, inspiring and proud of their heritage it left me glowing. Apparently their studio is open for visits if you talk to Alex. A must see and definitely one on the most inspiring experiences I've had in a long time.
