I went to Hawaii for a week and one of our snorkeling guides told us about Koko Head Mountain. If I remember correctly its is about 1000 steps to the top, and they are literally steps. It looks like a railroad used to run up the mountain and the old railroad tracks are now your stairs. It is definitely more of a local spot with some tourists and the locals are easy to spot because they are either running up these stairs or they pass you about four times by the time you've reached the top. The top is so worth any fatigue you have after all these stairs however, because it gives you views of all of Waikiki, the valley behind, and Haunama Bay leading out to the Pacific Ocean.
