One of the most amazing and mysterious things I have noticed on my trip is the strange fascination Kazakhstan has with the Beatles. They’re everywhere: on bars, shops and in all aspects of Kazakh urban life. My understanding is that this all stems from the Soviets’ utter fear of rock music’s rebellious message, and the bands’ popularity on the black market. It feels kind of good to see that they burst through the iron curtain. The picture above is apparently the only statue in existence with all four members... Kazakhstan, the world of many wonders.
