Kod Ruže
For real-deal Slavonian food in a fantastic atmosphere, you can’t do better than this rustic restaurant in the Baroque heart of Osijek. Here, a series of wood-clad rooms are done up in taxidermy and countryside-themed bric-a-brac, giving diners a sense of rural life in Slavonia. The menu features appetizers such as perch carpaccio (the fish is native to the Danube) and homemade
kulen (Slavonian smoked sausage) as well as entrées like venison shepherd’s stew, fried carp, and
fiš paprikaš (a spicy river fish stew served with homemade pasta). On weekend nights, a gypsy orchestra makes for an even more memorable dining experience.
