Most of this journey ventures through Sumatra and Java, but there are two stops in Thailand’s remote Ko Tarutao Marine Park on the first day—areas rarely visited by cruise or expedition ships. (You can thank the Silver Discoverer’s shallow draft for the closer-to-shore navigations, and the on-board fleet of 12 Zodiacs for easy access to isolated shores.) The Marine Park counts about 50 jungle-covered islands, and in the morning, you’ll arrive at Ko Rawi for some snorkeling and aquatic activities. (Just don’t pocket one of the unique pebbles that cover the beaches here, as legend has it that taking one off-island results in years of bad luck.) In the afternoon, it’s off to Ko Adang Island, where you can snorkel amid its stunning offshore coral reef or join the cruise’s expert botanist for a rainforest walk to Pirates Falls.
