Klein Constantia is one of the oldest vineyards on the Cape, established in 1685 by then Governor Simon van der Stel. He's known as the father of the wine industry on the Cape because he was the first to realize the great potential the soil and climate held for growing vines in the region now known as Constantia.
The best tasting and souvenir bottle to take with you from this vineyard is their iconic dessert wine, the Vin de Constance. This is a wine with a rich history due to it's popularity among European kings. Even literary figures like Jane Austen and Charles Dickens were fans, making reference to it in literature.
This vineyard is only about 20 minutes from the city center, and is the best option for visitors with limited time in the city looking to experience a historical South African vineyard.
