In Jamaica everything is intertwined with the history, lifestyle and culture that is Rastafaria. A core pillar of Rastafarian culture is to “eat clean”. Eating clean means no meat and fresh produce. It’s not to say jerk chicken and oxtail aren’t everywhere you go but I was surprised to find as much vegan or “ital” restaurants in Kingston, Jamaica. I’ve heard about this restaurant from friends and they said it would be the best meal I’ll have while in Kingston by far. So the expectation was set high and this restaurant went above and beyond my expectations. In a shopping plaza on Constant Spring Road, walk through the plaza and you will see a circular bar decorated in Rasta fashion and dancehall music to match. The signage is very low profile but you’ll see it when you run up on it. The staff was so friendly and encouraged me to come to a Friday event they throw every Friday night as I bite into a hearty, full of flavor taste of Jamaican Vegan food with soul. Google map and Yelp may not help you find this treasure as the owner is more so on Instagram and Facebook for updates so follow @king_david_ital_restutant. Vegan or not this is a meal you don’t wanna miss.
