Killybegs Maritime & Heritage Centre
The histories of fishing and carpet-making come together under one roof in this center where Killybegs’s most important industries are explained to visitors. Donegal Carpets grace the floors of Buckingham Palace, the Oval Office of the White House and the Vatican in Rome, and here you can learn about the origins of the company and see the largest hand-knotting loom in the world. There are also informative exhibits about key moments in the history of Ulster, such as the Plantation of Ulster and the Flight of the Earls. Would-be sailors can also get behind the wheel of the Bridge Simulator to experience the realities of life at sea for the port’s many fishermen.
