There's not a whole lot to explore in L'Anse, Michigan, a small town bordering the Lake Superior's Keweenaw Bay. In truth, this part of the nation is for the nature and outdoor sports enthusiasts. Beautiful red rock cliffs line US 41 (incidentally, a highway that runs all the way from Miami Florida to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula), canoes and fishing boats dot the bay waters, and there are hundreds of hiking trails and small waterfalls woven through the heavily wooded landscape. But if you want to spend an afternoon amongst the townspeople, soaking up some local culture, you might find yourself limited to a few bars, a pizza joint, and the little park along the beach. Or, you could stop into the Keweenaw Cairn Gift Shop and paint your own pottery! The owners are incredibly friendly and for a very small fee, you can leave this remote paradise with your very own handmade souvenir.
