Kessler Sekt GmbH & Co. KG

Georg-Christian-von-Kessler-Platz 12-16, 73728 Esslingen am Neckar, Germany

While I am by no means a champagne-aficionado, I appreciate the odd glass of bubbly every now and then. So when I stumbled upon the Kessler cellar and shop in the heart of Esslingen, just outside Stuttgart, I knew I couldn’t skip it. And I’m so happy I didn’t. The cellar dates back from medieval times, and is still used today to produce the fine Kessler nectar. The founder, Georg Christian von Kessler, actually learned the tricks of the trade straight from the horse’s mouth - more precisely at the Veuve Cliquot factory in Reims, France. Instead of accepting the reigns of the company, he decided to move back to his German hometown, and start his own. What could have been an umpteenth cellar visit turned out to be a fantastic, informative experience. The sheer passion and joy of the employees is contagious, and will make anyone a sparkling wine lover in just a few minutes. And that’s what makes the visit so special. Their love for Kessler. My tip: the rosé sparkling wine is absolutely delicious - make sure to taste it!
