While driving along the "must-do" Great Ocean Road, we took a stop at Kennett River. According to my driving partner in crime, a zoology student, this was THE place to see Koalas in their natural habitat. Boy oh boy did this place deliver.
Right out of the car there was a koala, within 2 meters! Of course the initial Koala was mobbed with tourists. So, we continued along the route for 2KM and continuously saw Koalas. Not to mention, it was pretty cute to see them as the dozed in the V of the trees!
I cannot recommend more avoiding the zoo and the sanctuaries to see Koalas--seeing them in the wild is a very fun treasure hunt!
