Kapalua Golf Course
Home to the PGA Tour's Tournament of Champions each January, Kapalua Golf sprawls south of the Ritz-Carlton (set slightly back from the sea to preserve an ancient Hawaiian burial ground). Choose the Arnold Palmer-designed Bay Course for dramatic views and Maui's only oceanside hole (the par-3 fifth). Meanwhile, the Plantation Course—honoring the 22,000 acres of pineapples that once grew here—remains among the best in Hawaiʻi and, indeed, in all America. A first collaboration between minimalist architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, it features jungled canyons, elevation changes and challenging shots onto fairways and greens. Both beginners and scratch golfers appreciate the instruction at Kapalua's renowned Golf Academy. Try to tee off early, before the winds kick up.
