Veuve Clicquot at Kapalua Cliff HouseThe storied champagne house of Veuve Clicquot is internationally celebrated for its iconic Yellow Label Brut champagne and New York’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, now in its 10th year. Though recently the maison turned its attention to Hawaii, unveiling an exclusive pop up Champagne Hale inside Cliff House at the Montage Kapalua Bay in Maui. “Hale” is the Hawaiian word for home, and that’s what it feels like here when you’re sitting on the Cliff House’s lounge or deck with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Brut watching the sun set across Namalu Bay.
It makes perfect sense that Veuve Clicquot chose the historic Cliff House for their pop up; the neighboring beaches are the most spectacular in Maui and continuously ranked as some of America’s best. Cliff House is rarely open to the public. It’s set atop a rocky, waterfront outcropping and seems to hover over the water like a Hawaiian tree house. While taking over Cliff House, Veuve Clicquot created a chic and relaxed lounge that is completely open to the ocean breeze. There is a bar and limited seating indoors and out that makes for a more private experience rather than a packed tiki bar. Guests can order snacks too, prepared by Montage Kapala Bay’s Executive Chef David Viviano. Tuna poke, fresh oysters, Osetra caviar—all the bites that pair perfectly with Veuve Clicquot Brut—are featured on the pop up menu.
Beyond the beauty of Cliff House and the Montage Kapalua Bay, guests can try the new Veuve Clicquot Rich, which the house mixologists pour over ice with pineapple and citrus juices. The bar also serves the champagne houses Yellow Label, La Grande Dame and Rosé by the glass. Sunsets here are spectacular and Veuve Clicquot offers guests sunset champagne flights. But don’t wait too long. Veuve Clicquot’s Champagne Hale closes September 3, 2017. Open Thursday-Sunday from 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. www.veuveclicquot.com; www.montagehotels.com/kapaluabay/
