Kampin Kappeli

A Moment of Silence in the Middle of Helsinki
Feeling overwhelmed? Kampin Kappeli (Chapel of Silence) is the perfect place to relax and reflect. If you visit Helsinki when the temperatures are still chilly like I did, it's also the perfect place to warm up before venturing back out into the Nordic cold.

A beautiful example of modern Finnish design, the chapel was won awards for it's innovative approach. The interior is simple. It's constructed of horizontal planks of wood and adorned only with three candles, a small cross, and a few simple flowers. The light draws your eyes upward despite the lack of adornment or even any specific focal point.

The chapel is located in Narinkkatori Square, right off Mannerheimintie, one of the city's busiest streets, directly behind a shopping center. Look for the oval shaped, orange wooden building. You can't miss it.
