Fall Colors on Amager
If you are lucky enough to be visiting Copenhagen in the fall, a walk through the woods of Vestamager ("West Amager") is well worth leaving the medieval core of the city for a few hours of scenic solitude. Head south half an hour to the island of Amager (home to the airport), where several streets end with western entrances to the countryside, which takes up nearly a quarter of the island. Walking trails abound, taking you through dense forests that open up to views of the sea to the south and the steeples and few high rises of Copenhagen to the north. While the forests and meadows of Vestamager are beautiful year-round, fall is when the colors of this land come to life.
