The lighthouse in Jupiter, Florida was built to mark the reef off the Jupiter Inlet. It would aide navigation in the area. This lighthouse was completed in 1860 and is the oldest structure in Palm Beach County. Visitors can climb the winding 105 steps and visit the lens room where the powerful lens is set. The light from this lens can be seen 18-25 miles at sea. Standing at the top of the lighthouse you can watch the Loxahatchee River flow into the Atlantic Ocean.The view is beautiful and this is a great photo opportunity. When you climb down you can visit the Museum that has exhibits and information on the history of the lighthouse and the area.The Museum store has gifts and souvenirs. You should figure 2 hours for this attraction. The area is real Florida. There are several restaurants in the area. Guanabana is a lot of fun with a gorgeous Polynesian feel. After lunch hours and before dinner there is a happy hour menu.You can get a map and/or suggestions at the Museum store. Just ask.
