Will sends travelers bound for Churchill to Winnipeg’s Assiniboine Zoo before they travel north. The new Journey to Churchill exhibit which opened in 2014 embraces the current trends in zoo design to minimize the sense of distance between animals and human visitors with strategically located moats and other barriers discretely hidden from sight. While the orphaned polar bears are the stars here, the exhibit provides an introduction to most of the animals of northern Manitoba: seals, snowy owls, musk oxen and more. No matter what time of year you visit Churchill, you can only count on seeing some of the species that live in the region given the timing of migrations and other factors, but Journey to Churchill provides an overview of the region and its residents in all seasons.
From the bears of Vancouver Island to the belugas of Hudson Bay, the itineraries to Canada at AFAR Journeys provide opportunities to see many of the country’s wild residents.
