Hiking at Grant County Park
A short, winding drive through the east San Jose foothills takes you to Joseph D. Grant County Park. Despite being so close to the city, this park never feels crowded. It has more than 50 miles of trails — expect to see hikers, mountain bikers, plenty of dog walkers, and if you're there at the right time, hillsides dotted with wildflowers. One of the park's more popular events is the monthly Star Party, where you can gaze through a variety of telescopes on Telescope Row set up by members of the Halls Valley Astronomical Group. (If you plan to do some star gazing, note that the entrance gate closes at sunset.)
