At the front of Gwanghwamun Square stands the 17 meter statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, one of the greatest naval commanders in history. Admiral Yi was renowned for his victories against the Japanese during the Imjin War during the Joseon Dynasty; he was never defeated.
Further down the square sits the statue of King Sejong, one of the greatest kings in Korean history, and at the very end of the square lies Gyeongbokgung Palace, unquestionably the best of the five palaces in Seoul.
