Like Frenchy, Jon Schooler is another immigrant to New Orleans who settled in the city after being drawn by its unique creative energy. The self-taught, contemporary folk artist originally from Brooklyn settled on Oak Street in 2003, after living in San Miguel de Allende for 30 years. “His studio is just up the street from mine,” Frenchy says. “Jon is one of my favorite artists of the moment with his colorful, direct canvases, many of them capturing daily life in New Orleans and familiar places in our neighborhood.”
