Tucked into a corner of Germany near the Czech border, Zwickau isn’t most people’s travel radar. However, it’s the birthplace of AUDI and there’s a great auto museum - interesting even if, like me, you’re not really into cars The result of the prospering industry in the late 19th century is a collection of fantastic Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) architecture. One of my favorite places is the Johannisbad, a Gründerzeit bathhouse from the 1860s with a Jugendstil interior from 1904. It’s an authentic experience with the art nouveau age, easily on par with those found in Vienna and Budapest.
