Recently completed a trip to Israel and the West Bank during which we had the opportunity to visit The Freedom Theatre in the Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank. We had an introduction by Jonatan Stanczak who is the managing director of The Freedom Theatre and watched a rehearsal for an upcoming show. Afterward, Jonatan came with up on a short walk around the surrounding streets where we encountered a number of children living at the camp. The theatre provides an outlet for young people in the area to express themselves through the arts (theater, photography . . . ). In the media, we hear about the problems that exists in the West Bank (Palestine), but it was good to have faces to go with the news stories. Whatever one thinks about the situation between Israel and the Palestinians, if you find yourself in the West Bank, The Freedom Theatre really is an interesting place to visit.
