Visit the Ruins of a Mission Church
The ancestors of the present-day Jemez Pueblo people lived here in the San Diego
Canyon more than 500 years ago. Visitors can tour the ruins of that village, along with the San José de los Jemez church, which dates to 1621. The pamphlet-guided tour through the ruins only takes about 30 minutes; it's an interesting site in a stunning setting. The modern-day Jemez Pueblo lies just down N.M. 4 from the monument and is closed to visitors on all but feast days.
