The Turia River bed gardens run for 9 km (about 6 miles) through the city of Valencia. The original river was diverted in 1957 due to flooding, and since then, the exposed riverbeds have been converted into wide, lush parks and gardens. The City of Arts and Sciences, one of Valencia’s most famous attractions, is located at one end, and cycling and walking paths run from one end of the park to the other; you can rent a bike or one of the bike-carriage contraptions that seat up to four. As you stroll, you’ll see a minigolf course, a Gulliver’s playground for kids, and a skateboarding park, as well as the Palau de la Musica, which offers free concerts and performances. It’s a fun, free outdoor activity that the whole family can enjoy.

Wander the Grounds at Jardín del Turia Park

After enduring years of periodic flooding, the city redirected the Turia River and turned the former river bed into Jardín del Turia, Spain’s largest park. Here, you can sit fountain-side with a picnic lunch and listen to the soothing sounds of water, or wander the grounds to find your favorite bridge (there are 15, and some are more than five centuries old). Play frisbee or practice yoga on a stretch of lawn, or make your way to attractions inside the park itself, like Gulliver Children’s Park, the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciéncies, the city zoo, and the Bioparc.
