Unlike Havana’s National Botanical Garden, which is well-maintained and divided into discrete sections, the botanical garden of Cienfuegos (located just beyond the city proper) is a bit more of an untamed affair, with native flora growing in less clearly demarcated areas. A guide can be a particularly useful interpreter here, and tours are often combined with a visit to Laguna de Guanaroca, a bird sanctuary off of the Bahía de Cienfuegos. Be sure to stop by the bar at the end of your visit for a complimentary serving of coconut water.
