Theater in Osaka

Japan has three main kinds of indigenous theater: the famous Kabuki, which has lots of jumping and noise and action; the mostly-unknown-outside-Japan Noh theater, which is sort of like watching slow motion in slow motion; and the puppet theater called Bunraku. These puppets aren’t little things—it takes three people (dressed in black to be less visible) to manipulate some of the creations. Osaka is home to the National Bunraku Theatre, where matinee tickets are not expensive and include English-language headsets.
