In a town where your head can spin (and later ache) from so many varieties of wine, there's one hideaway where a weary wino can keep it simple. At the colorful JaM Cellars in downtown Napa, no one minds if you can't tell your blatina from your brut.
Conceived and managed by husband and wife John and Michele Truchard, JaM Cellars serves just three wines — JaM Butter Chardonnay, JaM Cabernet Sauvignon and Toast Sparkling — alongside small bites. The space may look like a 1970s rock star's living room, but it has the homey vibe of your family's finished basement.
The night I went, blues guitarist Chris Pierce opened his soulful set with an acoustic rendition of The Beatles's "Don't Let Me Down." (He didn't. Pierce was outstanding.)
JaM also stands out among Napa spots with its "late night" hours. Most vineyards close around 4:00 pm, but here you can rock out until midnight on the weekends.
Pierce finished the night with an original called "Meet Me in the Vineyard." After meeting in some of Napa's world-class vineyards, it's well worth heading to JaM Cellars to keep the party going.
