Just past the street vendors on Chinatown’s main drag, you'll find Jackpot Chicken Rice. The restaurant’s facade is pale blue and punctuated with cartoony depictions of grains of rice. The colorful whimsy continues inside, too: A cheeky mural, painted in the style of a Chinese propaganda poster, features a smiling baby clutching a watermelon. But it’s not all about the decor; the menu is dazzling, too. The namesake entrée, Jackpot’s version of the classic Hainanese dish, arrives poached and paired with winter melon soup and several sauces.
