The moniker was used in the 16th century for members of the British Royal Navy who served as assistant’s to the sailing ships’ Purser. This sailor maintained the foodstuffs aboard the ship and as part of his duties he baked bread; hence he was likely always covered with flour dust and was named “Jack of the Dust” later shortened to “Jack Dusty.” As The Royal Navy plied the seas between the Caribbean islands, stopping in several ports to load supplies; the term evolved to include marina-front markets where provisions were bought to take on the voyages. Like their namesake, the restaurant provides guests with fortifying meals and beautifully crafted cocktails. Of course the guests of Jack Dusty today dine on imaginative dishes and beautiful libations the poor sailors could never have dreamed of. And here is something new for you artisan beer lovers: Jack Dusty has just debuted its own beer, Frogman IPA in collaboration with local brewery, Big Top Brewing Company. Additionally, guests can purchase growlers of the brew to take home and reminisce about their time in Sarasota.
